ABOUT

Pygmalion's Girlfriends traces the historical interconnections between women* and machines and extends them in the age of artificial intelligence. According to cyberfeminist thinkers, patriarchy renders women as machines of reproduction, while AI assistants such as Alexa and Siri have female voices because both women and artificial intelligence are expected to be polite and accommodating.

This notion of mechanical femininity, together with female affinity to such a powerful technology, can also be understood as an advantage in today’s hyper-technological era. Based on this idea, I designed a workshop series culminating in a public performance accompanied by a publication, aiming to reverse the affirmative logic of artificial intelligence and encourage cyberfeminist resistance.
